The Best of Etsy: Earth Day 2009

One of my favorite stores on Etsy: Monkeys Always Look. Featuring potted plants in the most amazing vintage containers!

It’s Earth Day and I’m absolutely excited about this week’s The Best of Etsy List.  As most of you have probably noticed, I have a soft-spot  for repurposed items and eco-friendly goods. So, it’s lovely to put together a list in honor of Earth Day with just such a focus. I hope you’ll find some new favorites and perhaps some new ways to treat our beloved planet better!

The  Best of Etsy: 22 April 2009 — The Earth Day List

First up, I had the hardest time choosing what to feature from Andrew’s Reclaimed. When you click on the store you’ll understand why. I suspect there is an arbor in my garden’s future–but you should really see these bee houses!

Mother Earth should not suffer for your clothes being clean! But hygiene is a good thing. Now you can both be happy!

Speaking of laundry duty, shouldn’t your clothes come out smelling fresh and clean and guilt free!

Don’t have space to plant a garden? How about a DIY terrarium? Bet you have room for that!

Engraved invitations are so last century. This century’s invitation is eco chic!

Paper or plastic? How about cotton! Jen Hintz makes fabulous bags (and Mother Earth approved!) for your groceries or laundry.

And finally, even your home  decor can make a difference. Why not plant something green in something repurposed?

That wraps up this week’s list. Why not tell me your favorite eco-friendly tip in the comments. I’d love to know what your best advice is to those of us trying to make a difference?  Once you’ve done that, get out there and enjoy this day!

The Fabulous Work of Elin Thomas

It’s Tax Day and I hope you all got yours done early! But whether you’re scrambling last minute or watching the rest of us scramble last minute, The Best of Etsy is promised relief from the drudgery of taxes. And besides, you’ve got a little rebate money coming your way, right? Well, I’ve found a few ways for you to spend it!!

The Best of Etsy — 15 April 2009 — The Tax Man Doesn’t Get the Last Laugh List

The weather here isn’t cooperating, but I’m ready to dress for spring. Lately, the Maxi  dress has caught my imagination and this one is superb!

I’m thinking I’ll wear that dress HERE. Ok, I can’t go, but I can buy the photograph!

I think we’ve established that I go coo coo for cocoa puffs, I mean pottery. And now, I can wear it!

All caps on the description aside, these would be perfect for sipping Ice Tea on the Porch in that dress. You see a theme here. Right? I refuse to let the tax man or the weather impede my delusions.

Athena’s Olive Tree is having a HUGE Sale. And I’m all over anything BEACH.

Brand new store! Such a cool concept! Go check out All Things White.

And finally, some seriously cool wall art. Still undiscovered, so you can say you saw it here first!

So that wraps up this week’s list. Come join me on Twitter today as I RT (retweet) specials and deals for Tax Day. It’s not too early to be thinking about Mother’s Day and Graduations, not to mention Wedding Season. So, find a deal and snatch it up!

The Best of Etsy — 8 April 2009

Amazing work from Midnight Blue Adorn

Can you believe it’s already April? We’ve been blessed with a few sunny days this month and April is already feeling lighter than March. I hope it’s finding all of you well!

Today’s list is eclectic. But I think there are a few treasures worth perusing. Think of it like an Easter Egg Hunt: what will you find when you click? Enjoy!

The Best of Etsy — 8 April 2009.  The Treasure Hunt List

My newest favorite thing to hunt for on Etsy is colored glass. WOW!

I’m really fascinated by things that incorporate “words”. So, this is a must! And who isn’t a fan of recycling?

Speaking of words. . . Our life is what our thoughts make it!

Word scrambles + Love notes = Snail mail bliss. It’s the best kind of treasure hunt, finding real mail mixed in with the bills!

Feeling a little stressed out? You can stop searching: Stress relief for the Modern Worker!

I’m always searching the next “it” bag–the perfect carryall. This one is a contender!

And finally, while I’m a huge fan of tiny ceramic mushrooms for your terrarium, I’m liking this vintage piece! Everyone needs a gremlin, right?

Have fun looking through this list. I’d love to hear what you think— so feel free to leave a comment. And as always, you can find The Best of Etsy each Wednesday afternoon at 1 pm PST on Twitter! Join me!

You Told Me — Michele Maule

Hi there! It’s April Fool’s Day and do I have a surprise for you. It’s no joke: this week’s The Best of Etsy list is being featured on Indie Fixx!  It’s a supersized list, crammed packed with my choices for your wall. Yes, you heard me. Your wall emailed me last week and complained about the poster print of the Eiffel Tower you have framed in plastic that she’s been “wearing” since 1995. It’s time for a new look! So, head over to Indie Fixx and take a peek. I’m betting you find something your wall will adore.

For those of you who are regular Evidently readers, I should be back later today with a new post. Assuming, of course, that I do not drown in this torrential rain. Now, I need to go find my Water Wings before I head out to the grocery store.

The Best of Etsy — 25 March 2009

Sulu earrings. Susan truly is one of The Best of Etsy!

Spring has arrived. Now, somebody tell the weather! This constant grey and rain has driven my motivation to Boca Raton. She left two weeks ago and I hear she’s having a grand old time sipping sweet things on a beach somewhere.  I wish she would come home, because the laundry is piling up!

I know, I know, I’m always whinging about the weather. Shall we get on with it? I have a great list today–No theme, just a selection of really amazing Etsy finds I think you should see. So, here we go:

The Best of Etsy: The List Where Wende Stops Whining About the Weather for 15 Minutes.

First up, these make my heart weep in that really nice way. And then I start searching for babies to spoil. Oh my.

Tortillagirl rocks my world. And this bag will rock yours. Yes it will. Don’t argue, click!

$10 and free shipping. Worldwide! What are you waiting for? What am I waiting for?

Ok, so I know I said I wouldn’t talk about the weather in this list. So I won’t. But if the ___________ is too cold in your part of the world to wear your new Spring Dress. . . then pair it with this. See, I can do this!

I don’t  feature enough stuff for men, do I? This is super cool and on sale. I like a sale, don’t you?

Pssst. You. Yeah, you with the 8.5 size foot. Red Wedges. Vintage. I know, that never happens!

Tulips and lattes. I think it might just be a match made in heaven. Go see!

Wow, and I have so much more to show you! However, you’re going to have to wait until next week to see it! Apparently, some of you are in full possession of your motivation and are making amazing things for spring! Speaking of next week—do I have a surprise for you. It’s going to be a super-sized list and . . . I can’t tell you the rest. But it’s really good!

Until then, enjoy the beginning of this new season.

The Best of Etsy — 18 March 2009

Wende’s refrigerator art is excited at the prospect of spring.

Can you believe we’re less than a week from the official onset of spring? I couldn’t be more ready for the possibility of a nice long walk in the sun. You know, wearing a dress or sandals or well, not my huge wool coat! Although, out here in North Coast Oregon, spring may not arrive when the calendar suggests. So, all the dreaming we can muster is a necessity!  With that in mind, here is today’s The Best of Etsy list: a dreamy collection that should have you thinking “Spring!!” even if the weather won’t permit.

The Best of Etsy — 18 March 2009 — The Leave Your Coat at Home List

First up is this darling vintage dress. This is really a summer dress, but with the right sweater you can get a jump on things! Spring forward, right?

The perfect accessory for that girly spring dress! It’s really delicate but not frumpy. Floral without being fru-fru.

If you’re thinking “ruffles, meh” then this  modern twist on the ruffle is for you!

My options are white, black, or naked. That makes me happy. I see you smirking.

Dresses not your thing? How about an amazing tunic you can wear a number of ways?? Love the color, too!

Ok, don’t tell this guy, but I’m going to steal his scarf and wear it with my boyfriend sweater.

And finally,

Oh sure, you can take a walk in the sun at lunch. But what about your desk? It was once a tree and it misses the outdoors. Give it a friend!

Three days until spring, People. THREE. DAYS. We can do this. Yes we can. Tell me what you love, m’kay?Â
