Keeping Traditions

Me: Do you still want a birthday tree now that you are a teenager? Or have you out-grown the tradition?

Boy Wonder: Mom! You’re never too old for a birthday tree! In fact, I’m going to make sure my kids have birthday trees.

I completely agree with him. My birthday was the end of August and a birthday tree is sooooooo much cooler than a birthday backpack.

What a different and wonderful tradition!

    Carly, what’s a Birthday Backpack?

We think so! It gets lots of raised eye-brows from the more religiously conservative set. But, I figure–Christians “borrowed” the Christmas tree from Pagans in the first place, Jesus won’t mind loaning it out to the kid for a few days. :D ~W

How cool is that!! Especially for magic 13. Happy Birthday, BW!

In answer, I used to get a backpack for a present. Lame. Though one year, it had Care Bears. That one was awesome. I’d rather have a tree, though.

Oh no. That’s kinda sad, Carly. I thought maybe it was a tradition where they filled it with coolio things. Hmm… ~W

Ohhhh thirteen? We’ve got a soon to be thirteen year old in the family at the beginning of next year…I hope that boy never outgrows the birthday tree…My birthday falls in the spring…which means sometimes I get a birthday Easter basket…but I would like to change it to birthday diamonds instead I think. Yes. That would be nice. ;)

Yeah, I’m pretty sure you can’t go wrong with birthday diamonds. :D ~W

I think the birthday tree is an excellent way to celebrate a Christmas baby. I’m so glad you thought of that one sweetie -and I’ve enjoyed helping to put them together. You rock. So does the tree.

We’ve had a fabulous time collaborating. I only wish I’d saved pieces from each year so we could do a “finale” tree at 18. I’m KICKING myself for not thinking ahead. Bugger. :D ~W
