hello again, it’s been awhile! Congrats on your anniversary! It’s mine today (only, we forgot…heh, and spent the day apart. Happy 7 years, honey, oh well!)

HAD to say that I’ve been eyeing these since the catalog came in the mail. Still thinking about ordering one of the backordered pairs – now they won’t be in till the end of JULY. argh. They are so, SO pretty – even better in your photo. I see these and my child (aka the inner-fairy-princess) screams for them. She also wants a tiara, though. *grin*

we’re heading back to the NW in a week – a WEEK! – and I won’t miss SB. Summer heat wave hit early – no June gloom this year. ugh – too, too hot.

You coming back for a visit or FOREVAH? The shoes are fun, I like them… and rumor is we’re getting warm days at the end of the week, so maybe I’ll wear them then!

And for my 7th anniversary, I had surgery to have my wisdom teeth removed. Heh! Good times. Congratulations, btw! ~W

Heh, I am beyond impressed with how this blog went from something simple like cute shoes all the way to a theology lesson on the name of God… wow!

And, in an effort to join in on the god conversation… those shoes are too cute, they are very Greek Goddess-y

Ohhh talking God-smack… fun! I’ve been having some fun with OMG lately. Sure, there’s the standard “Oh my gods” from BSG. But what if you wanted it to be Oh my goddess!? Wende’s point is well made in that you can’t really take God’s name in vain since it was never published. You have to admire God’s handiwork in that — there’s power in a name so why give it to us humans! Still, saying “Oh my God” really does need to be more specific to violate the true meaning of the scripture. Personally, it would be more fun to believe in a Pantheon because then names could be really specific. If I wanted to express frustration with war I could say Oh my Mars! If Wende shows off some lovely new dress I could say, Oh my Venus, you look beautiful! If Greek / Roman pantheon isn’t your thing, one could pursue general deity substitution. For instance, if you are Christian you could say “Oh my Vishnu” because Vishnu isn’t technically the deity you worship. “Thou shall not take the name of the Lord THY God in vain” — strict emphasis on THY. Of course from my perspective all prayer goes to the same place… regardless of the name we attach to it. But we are talking about “letters of the law” here so I digress. “Oh my Dhamma” anyone? (Can’t really say Oh my Buddha since Buddha isn’t really the equivalent of God…)

The Pantheon’s front desk person deeply peeved that the “Protestants” that keep “calling” seem confused about which god they’re trying to reach. I just haven’t written it yet. ~W

God is a “he” to many people, such is the shame. Hebrew Scripture does not use a gendered pronoun to refer to “God”. However, English is not as precise nor as elegant. The second commandment is to not take “The ‘LORD’, (LORD=YHWH in the translation) thy God’s NAME in vain.” This is a direct commandment to not use the NAME of God in vain, not to use the WORD God in vain. There is, at least in the Hebrew text, a distinct difference. Which is why, the Hebrew scribes went so far as to only use Consonants to write the name of God—an added protection against the possibility of breaking commandment 2. In fact, if you want to get technical, we can blame the “OMG” on these very Hebrew Scribes who shortened God’s NAME to YHWH, leaving out the vowels!

Of course, the downside of such a move, is that the true pronunciation of God’s name as known to Hebrew Scripture has been lost to us. The word YHWH as it appears in Hebrew Scripture is translated as Jehovah or LORD in English translations.

SO! If you want to take the “Lord, THY GOD’s, NAME in vain” you don’t do it by using the WORD “god”… but the Name of God. And good luck with that.

This arguement is one based on the idea that “GOD” is being used ontologically–not as a personal name.

For the record, I do find the personal pronoun usage offensive… as it excludes half the population—and Hebrew Scripture is riddled with language that is FEMININE for the divine. I cannot help that it has mainly been interpreted by White Men through the centuries.

BDB is also an “OMG” for Brown, Driver, Briggs—A staple of Seminary, the Hebrew/English Dictionary/Lexicon. ~W

I do have ugly feet. SADLY. I should go get a pedicure… but as I’ve never had one, I feel very bad making someone doe my toes. Seriously. But the shoes, I just couldn’t resist. I had an amazing pair of silver sandals that I wore to death for 2 years. So, it was time for a new pair anyhow. But these just did it for me. ~W
