The peonies are gorgeous. I love apricot / peach colored flowers. Sophie sleeps so much becuase she wiggles and runs, I had no idea! She always looks so tired out and now I know why. Did I mention that she called and says she wants to come to the Santa Cruz Mountains and help ryan make wine for a week or two? She did. Just let me know when you want to drop her off!! ^_- P.s.- how's the paint on the porch doing?

The tangy porch has grown on us. I think it will remain that color until the porch needs repainting in a year or so. As for Sophie, she does spend a great deal sleeping. She seems to only have two speeds: sleeping and trotting. :D ~W

The bluest skies you'll ever see are in Seattle;
And the hills, the greenest green in Seattle.
~Perry Como

You need to revisit for a comparison study, perhaps? ;~)

Girl, PLEASE! I LOVE those pictures! I so miss that place. I haven't wanted to live anywhere else for about 15 years, and in those 15 years, I've only lived there for 1! Life in the CG isn't fair sometimes, but the best is worth waiting for. I'll have to suck in as much scenery and smell when I'm out there in 35ISH days!!!!!! ) :)

If I were a lost and homeless bird I would flop down in Astoria and wait to be rescued. It's SO beautiful Wende. I had the same question about your porch view so your answer was helpful. Those peonies are stunning. Peonies (ant plant, we used to call them) are wonderfully resiliant growing better with age. I love this series of photos- water, mountains, a sideways BW- what more could a person want? Are there any good jobs in Astoria?

There aren't jobs here like there are city jobs. But there is opportunity for those people with a vision. If you can bring something this area doesn't have and needs, then I think it's a great place. If you're a mid-level manager of something, then the field is far more narrow. In time, though, I think it's going to change. We're just beginning to really grow now. OR you come when you no longer need to work. It has retirement potential written all over it. Assuming, of course, you can handle the weather. ~W

Scoth Broom, Thank you! I had no idea what they were called... over the weekend I took so many pictures of them growing over at carruther's park.

The weather is super amazing today too... the air even smells good. :)

Oh, the peonies are so beautiful, as is the view! I said to Hubby just yesterday, if we weren't moving to the valley to be closer to parents, we'd definitely be moving to Astoria. It's so gorgeous! Now, I'm out of the loop, but why is the view not going to be there? Fog? Or something worse? ~A :-)

Our view is so expansive because there is an empty plot of land across the street. It's been subdivided and is going up for sale. Evidently, two houses will be built, cutting our view in half. We'll still have excellent views from the second story--but only peek-a-view views from the porch. Which is still more than we've ever had so we're trying to keep that in mind. Our neighbor just took down a HUGE tree in his yard, and now we have views of the Astoria Column from the roof of our garage. We're seriously considering re-roofing and turning that into a deck. :D ~W

Yesterday was AMAZING! Beautiful photos... you captured the day so beautifully. I think I must have said five or six times yesterday (to anyone who'd listen to me), "wow... the sky is so blue".

You're right...this week, Oregon is *the* place to be! The weather is amazing! We're supposed to hit 90+ near Portland, and I'm looking forward to many water games when the kids get home from school. Thanks for all the beautiful pictures.

Oh, it is, isn't it? I'm digging this weather. It's projected to be cooler today, but without the wind so it still feels balmy to me.
