Road Weary

Mocha Baby.jpg

As some of you might have noticed from your comments (and mine) I’ve been on the road this weekend. We’ve spent a rainy few days up on the Northern Peninsula of Washington and Whidbey Island. I have to tell you, I’m tired. Traveling with an adolescent can be exhausting. I don’t recall being such a bundle of emotions at this age, but I’m sure that I was. I’ve been chanting for patience and have been only somewhat successful. The place we stayed belongs to friends who revel in “high service.” It’s lovely, really—but the china, and the antiques, and the crystal, and the finger bowls at breakfast make a mother of a 10 year old just a wee bit nervous. I will give him this: he was charming to our hosts. They gave him a “golden star” (brass) to symbolize how well behaved he was. HE might have been charming, but I was a wreck the whole time. Note to self: pack vodka next time.

I will be home later today and I’m sure I have stories to tell. But at the moment, I’m just so bushed I can barely think straight. So I will leave you with this, a photo of a rose that I adore but neglected to inquire as to its name. Any of you aficionados out there know what this is??

Thanks for the compliments on the photography. :D As for the typo. That’s hysterical. I’ve fixed it, now–but bloglines has recorded my goof-up for posterity. I WAS tired when I typed that. Honestly, I’m surprised that was my only typo. :D ~W

Get some rest–even though the mocha looks delicious. He’s not yet a teen, but a pre-teen is close enough. Those were the “interesting” years around here–then after the driver’s license. Bah.

Isn’t that the truth about boys! I am still shocked by how emotional they get. I kept thinking by the time they were four or maybe five the crying would stop…

Oh lands, the drama. But it’s all good. Right? We need to get our dramatic boys together soon. :D ~W

Better an emotional boy than one who’s all bottled up inside, right? With the intelligence and creativity that he displays comes a lot of that emotional roller coaster ride. Lucky he’s got such an understanding mom…

And a vacation AFTER my vacation. I tell you, it’s such work getting ready to leave and then putting us all right when we come home. I should stay away longer! ~W

That looks like “A Shropshire Lad” rose to me, a David Austin old english rose. You can look up more information on it at davidaustin.com and do a search for it by that name. Its a beautiful rose indeed, one of my favorites :)

I was going to guess David Austen, but I’m going to put my money on “Perdita” which won an award for fragrance in 1984. I found a blog page with a picture that looks like a ringer for the rose you have pictured–I’ll e-mail it to you! ~A :-)
