So, my crafty friend. What do you know of felt? I sent out 8 pounds of alpaca and llama wool to be spun but soe of the fibers were to short so she returned some in roving form. Now I’m thinking of trying y hand at felting…that’s sort of like recycle, reduce, re-use, right?

Oh, my! I think you totally scored. There is so much you can do with felting and it’s pretty easy to do! I’ve never had the opportunity to work with roving–as all my felting has been done with recycled wool sweaters. But I know people online who do amazing things. In this case, the internet is your friend. Just search “felting roving” and HOLY COW the cool things you can make and do with it. Lucky, lucky you!! ~W

I am a lucky girl on this front. Our yard is an absolute mess, but it does have lots of fun floral stuff growing up that I pilfer regularly. The roses are, sadly, a Costco indulgence. It’s actually an oddity that a week later some are still intact. I find the quality of their flowers lacking! ~W

I’m a little addicted to taking macro shots… so everything tends to be up close and personal. Good thing I’m enamored with flowers instead of, say, my nose.

Those roses are great. Do they smell as good as they look? We used to buy our rose plants when the were blooming so we knew we were getting smelly flowers. I mean, roses are beautiful, but they need to be fragrant for my yard. I have to wait and see if they grow here in WI. Which varieties are best, and so on. OK, I guess summer is ok for THAT.

They aren’t especially fragrant, as they were Costco roses, not yard roses.

So is mine! Which is odd, really. But I have a few other used tins from previous Portland runs. I’ve kept them because they are so beautiful, I figured I’d find a reason to use them soon. ~W

Trés romantique!
Vicki’s comment reminds me of my father’s response whenever my mother told him about the wonderful fabrics she had found for sewing/knitting my clothes when I was young. “It’s Tappisserie wool, dear!” Or, “It’s Haitana cotton, Hon!” “As long as it’s not felt!” was his standard reply. ;~)

Heh… felt gets such a bad rap. And I wouldn’t want clothing made of it, I guess… but it is uber cool for crafting. I would have loved to have had your clothes when I was little… the fibers sound amazing.
