I am just like you, which is why I prefer to have others make the decision--then I can give constructive criticism. I do love these colors though. They are close to my high school colors, so I have a deep attachment to them!

Heh... If I did the colors of our high school, our house would be well painted for Halloween. :D ~W

I'm not even going to comment on the color - I think you've had enough input/discussion/rethinking/etc. for that to be of any help. I am, however, enamoured with your story-telling. Great post!

Oh yes, once we have a clear day and the colors are chosen, he will be there. I think you know that I am a shy and cautious person?...Well, your painter (my brother:) guided me on my color choices. If it wasn't for him I wouldn't have red on my house.

Your house is great and really can pull off such a lovely treatment! Your brother has done an amazing job of advising us---and we've appreciated how he's getting this done. We're excited. I can't wait for it to be done so I can take photos and show off his good work to the whole world. :D ~W

It's hard to tell from the pictures, and of course, me never having seen your house in person, so I have to ask.... is it medium grey-blue body with dark grey-blue shutters and white trim? I had a house a few years ago I painted almost that exact color combination and I loved it.

But I know exactly what you mean about being ready. By the time I committed to the color of our house, I had amassed about 227 paint chips, eight trips to three different paint stores, and seven (yes, count 'em, seven) quarts of sample paint. Which were all on our house for several weeks while I tried to figure it out. The neighbors were thrilled. And I'm still convinced I went a shade too light.

I'm not helping, am I?

You're close. It is hard to tell in the photos because I took them so late in the day and it was overcast today. Grays come in different families, and these are definitely more in the blue family--but it's gray, gray. Deep slate for the shutters/porch floor, medium slate gray for the siding, and a creamy antique white color for the trim. The porch ceiling will be a pale robin's egg blue. :D We're still thinking on the door. At first I was worried that it was too dark---but after a walk around our neighborhood it's a great choice. And it ended up drying just lighter than original, so helped too. In the long run, when it's all painted, not just swatch, I think the rhodies and camellias will look amazing against that gray.

But I'm feeling you on the too many choices. Oh my. I had a print framed this week and it was an act of sheer terror choosing the matting! :D ~W

Sure - a spoon full of sugar helps the medicine go down. Of course, being from the South - a spoon full of sugar = Jack Daniel's...

Please, JD is for sissies. We drink Shine! :D Heh, oh, speaking of which. I noticed our local liquor store is stocking the stuff. Selling it in Mason Jars, no less. What do you bet that moonshine is being marketed by some slick ad agency from up North. Like we'd ever put a label on the stuff! ~W

I still think you should go with your initial purple impulse! :-) I'm sure it will turn out lovely, whatever you decide. Things seem to do that with you.

Heh, trust me, there were moments today when picking a purple seemed easier. :D As for things turning out, I don't know as they do as much as I've been raised with a very southern mentality of "make lemonade". And so I do. Of course, I spike the lemonade and that might be why it goes down easier. ;) ~W

Well, my favorite was when I proposed and you accepted. Next day it was, "are you sure?" - 17 years later I can still honestly say, "Yes" - even with your Southern "little fits"... ;-)
