A cricket! I love this photo, this quote, this sermon. You have no idea. When my children's dad decided he no longer wanted to be married and moved out it was right about this time of year. Within a week , the temps dropped in Michigan and I had to go out in the middle of the night in my nightgown and drag in all the houseplants, including a 6 ft ficus, into the bedroom. I was SO overwhelmed, depressed and immobilized I almost left them out to freeze but I forced myself.
And when I threw myself back into bed and just started weeping with the whole situation, this cricket started chirping SO loudly. He went for a good three months. I never could find him, I never saw him, he just started up every night. At first I wanted to spray the tree with agent orange but in lieu of that, he became my night friend and companion- and he reminded me well and long enough of all of those things. Thanks, Wende!

You're so welcome. We bumped into this visitor at the Natural History Museum in SB... where it quietly crawled onto BW and hung out for awhile. When I was very little, I once kept one for a pet... even took it on a driving vacation. We visited my southern relations, who thought I was crazy for keeping a Katydid as pet. However, considering they're southern... they should know crazy when they see it! ~W

Other voices indeed! I have to admit to alternately being soothed and annoyed by their "song."

It can be overwhelming. Katydids are exceptionally social... and unlike the average cricket, will actually crawl right on you and hang out. ~W

Yes. I learned that if you just stand still and give it a moment, grace can find you and touch you without having to chase it.

That is especially true of Katydids. ~W
