Days like today remind us why we live in Astoria. The weather is glorious. Even with a wind chill factor we’re sitting in the high 70’s and loving every moment. On days like today, photos seem to say so much more than words.
So, again with the melon sized peonies. Yet another specimen from my neighbor’s yard. I’ve yet to meet my neighbors, but their peonies are blooming like someone is caring for them.
It’s nothing but blue skies and that means lots of walks. And then lots of naps on the porch. Sophie made it clear on several occasions that she wanted “out”—we were only too happy oblige her. Oh, the dog needs walking, better go. Of course, there are no photos of her jaunty little walk because she moves so much it’s just a blur.
How blue are the skies? This blue. How cloudless? Not a puff ball in sight!
The water views get all the glory in these parts, but I adore the mountains as well. Right now, the foothills are blooming yellow with Scotch Broom and it looks like someone graffitied the hillside with yellow paint.
School is almost out and we are pressing to finish up all our projects by Friday. But, how do you hold a kid in when the weather is this great? Uh, yeah, right. Non-starter, really. So, off he went in the one pair of jeans that aren’t floods on the growing boy. And, as such, they’ve been worn tortured every day. Someone mentioned in the comments, “What can’t he do?” and my answer to that question is always a quick, “He can’t stop growing!” I won’t include a screen shot of my Old Navy invoice—but come Friday he should be sporting new duds without ventilation.
And it wouldn’t be much of a catalog of our amazing day out here on the coast, without the requisite shot of the river from my porch. You know, my tangy porch. Yeah, that one. It’s hard to not love this view, and we take it in every chance we get! (especially since we know it won’t be there too much longer.) Can you blame us? I’m seeing another mocha in my future. And, you know, I can’t think of a better place to sit and drink it all in. Mocha and the view.
Why not end where we began. You can stand another shot of those amazing Peonies, right?
Rumor has it, the weather will cool some tomorrow, but the blue skies will remain. We can hope.
Oh what a view…I swear, I would not be able to see anything around me if I had that view. My view is of an untouched empty space that will probably not be developes…still beautiful, but no water (then again, in AZ, what can one expect?)

Yes, but you have nice weather. And real summers. π ~W
That view! Those peonies! The weather has been gorgeous. I am just NOT in the mood to work. (unfortunately, neither are the students) It is very tricky this time of year to retain my joie de vivre!

Oh, I hear you on the work front. We’re in cram mode right now. So far, we’re doing ok. Finishing things in less time than I budgeted.. but oof. ~W
You’re right…this week, Oregon is *the* place to be! The weather is amazing! We’re supposed to hit 90+ near Portland, and I’m looking forward to many water games when the kids get home from school. Thanks for all the beautiful pictures.

Oh, it is, isn’t it? I’m digging this weather. It’s projected to be cooler today, but without the wind so it still feels balmy to me.
Yesterday was AMAZING! Beautiful photos… you captured the day so beautifully. I think I must have said five or six times yesterday (to anyone who’d listen to me), “wow… the sky is so blue”.

I know, and today is shaping up just fine as well. I have the Arbor Care guys out today, so my yard is shaping up too! π ~W
Oh, the peonies are so beautiful, as is the view! I said to Hubby just yesterday, if we weren’t moving to the valley to be closer to parents, we’d definitely be moving to Astoria. It’s so gorgeous! Now, I’m out of the loop, but why is the view not going to be there? Fog? Or something worse? ~A π

Our view is so expansive because there is an empty plot of land across the street. It’s been subdivided and is going up for sale. Evidently, two houses will beΓΒ built, cutting our view in half. We’ll still have excellent views from the second story–but only peek-a-view views from the porch. Which is still more than we’ve ever had so we’re trying to keep that in mind. Our neighbor just took down a HUGE tree in his yard, and now we have views of the Astoria Column from the roof of our garage. We’re seriously consideringΓΒ re-roofing and turning that into a deck. π ~W
Scoth Broom, Thank you! I had no idea what they were called… over the weekend I took so many pictures of them growing over at carruther’s park.
The weather is super amazing today too… the air even smells good. π

I was noticing the air too. Yummy! π ~W
Your Astoria is looking a lot nicer than my Astoria! I’ll never tire of your photos.

What a coincidence. I never tire of your photos either! ~W
If I were a lost and homeless bird I would flop down in Astoria and wait to be rescued. It’s SO beautiful Wende. I had the same question about your porch view so your answer was helpful. Those peonies are stunning. Peonies (ant plant, we used to call them) are wonderfully resiliant growing better with age. I love this series of photos- water, mountains, a sideways BW- what more could a person want? Are there any good jobs in Astoria?

There aren’t jobs here like there are city jobs. But there is opportunity for those people with a vision. If you can bring something this area doesn’t have and needs, then I think it’s a great place. If you’re a mid-level manager of something, then the field is far more narrow. In time, though, I think it’s going to change. We’re just beginning to really grow now.ΓΒ OR you come when you no longer need to work. It has retirement potential written all over it. Assuming, of course, you can handle the weather. ~W
Ah! That’s all I can say….

Girl, PLEASE! I LOVE those pictures! I so miss that place. I haven’t wanted to live anywhere else for about 15 years, and in those 15 years, I’ve only lived there for 1! Life in the CG isn’t fair sometimes, but the best is worth waiting for. I’ll have to suck in as much scenery and smell when I’m out there in 35ISH days!!!!!! ) π

Not counting days or anything, are you? π You do realize, of course, that 35 days out is the 4th of July. Somewhere in the Universe it’s written in stone that the coast always rains on the 4th. So, you better be bringing sunshine with you! π ~W
The bluest skies you’ll ever see are in Seattle;
And the hills, the greenest green in Seattle.

You need to revisit for a comparison study, perhaps? ;~)

The peonies are gorgeous. I love apricot / peach colored flowers. Sophie sleeps so much becuase she wiggles and runs, I had no idea! She always looks so tired out and now I know why. Did I mention that she called and says she wants to come to the Santa Cruz Mountains and help ryan make wine for a week or two? She did. Just let me know when you want to drop her off!! ^_- P.s.- how’s the paint on the porch doing?

The tangy porch has grown on us. I think it will remain that color until the porch needs repainting in a year or so. As for Sophie, she does spend a great deal sleeping. She seems to only have two speeds: sleeping and trotting. π ~W
