Weather permitting, this house is about to get a new dress. Which has stirred up quite the dilemma here at Chez Wonder. When the painter came and gave us our quote, we knew what we wanted. But then, he gave us a paint wheel— and like small children overwhelmed in an Ice Cream Parlor, we find we cannot make a decision and stick with it. So many colors! Seriously, how hard can it be to choose paint? It’s a farmhouse, after-all; the options are pretty narrow.
Fortunately, we are driving only ourselves mad at the moment. But any day now, this fence sitting is going to be called into account, and I’m worried that the word “PURPLE” will come tumbling from my mouth before I can stop it.
Oh how fun + exciting 🙂
We just had our house (exterior) painted last year, and as a colour girl… I was terrified that I would pick the wrong colour. I was changing the main house colour, which was white, and the trim.
I went down to the paint store and bought quarts of the colours I was interested in using and then painted huge swatches on the backside of the house. When you’re spending thousands of dollars, I figured spending $50 buck in paints wasn’t a bad idea 🙂
It’s amazing the transformation paint can make!
Best of luck with your choices…and if you go with purple, I’m positive you’d make it work. 🙂

It is an investment–and it’s not like you can change your mind easily once the paint gets applied. 😀 Your suggestion sounds like a good idea. : D~W
I have a terrible time making decisions about color. I have to have someone else give me advice.

Anything you pick will be pretty. I’m going to set up a beach chair in my yard and watch the colorfication magic on Paint Day. I’ll have wine and cheese too. Care to join me?

Uh, paint week! 😀 I may just come hang out with you if it gets too crazy here. We shall see. It could be as early as May, so I’m hoping to make a decision soon. ~W
I was immediately drawn to * Warm Cocoon 310C-3 * on the color options website you provided but then saw that was for interior only (can they make an exception?). So, I am now gravitating toward * Grasshopper Wing 400F-6 *. Are you sticking with the Arts & Crafts Period?
Love,
Jodi

We are sticking with the period, because this house was built in 1920 and still has a great deal of the original detail in it. While it is more farmhouse than complete Arts and Crafts, (the details are simpler) it still has a great deal of character. And frankly, to expand the options would only complicate matters for us, I suspect. I’m thinking that this house couldn’t carry off some of the color choices we see around town on Victorians. Nothing worse than attempting to be something you aren’t! 😀 ~W
Please do not select a blue-green color…while it is quite lovely, you’ll be forever trying to explain just what color it is. I know because we painted our house studio blue-green with a velum trim and everybody calls the color: “That’s green…no not quite green…what is it?”
kat is right…spend a few dollars and paint big squares on your house and look at it every day.
And, consider a third color. I love houses with three colors.

I suspect we will follow Kat’s suggestion: although, IZ is hoping the painter will do it for us. Ha! And we are going with 3 colors. There will be the house color, the trim color, and the the shutters and door color (plus, the porch floors/ceilings will be different too!) ~W
Since Gothic Amethyst is an interior color (too bad!), I’m going to have to lobby for Hidden Peak.

I’m thinking we will go a wee bit lighter… but we’re leaning toward grays right now. 😀 ~W
Oh, I’m saving up to paint the house this summer…I have a 1926 craftsman style…I’ve had my colors picked out for a while now…from Sherwin Williams, as they have their original colors from the time period in their stores. Tan body, off white trim…and oh, see…I guess I’m not totally prepared because I’m torn between a red or dark brown for the window sashes…maybe purple?

Heh, we’re actually using Sherwin Williams, too. But the Behr color combos were easier to work with online (The Sherwin Williams site bugs me, for some reason!) 😀 And, it’s hard to make those decisions! Good luck. 😀 ~W
Oh….The color of the houses dress. Why does that scare me? Maybe becasue you can’t chnage it if you don’t like it? I am sure you will choose the right thing!!! xxo,V

Oh, I hope so!! It scares me too, which is why I keep flip-flopping on the color. But, I don’t want to play safe and keep it white. Decisions, decisions! 😀 ~W
What a lovely home you inhabit!
Eggplant is purple, right? I love eggplant.
My Margaret bought an original Stickley furniture catalogue at a library sale over the weekend. ‘Twas $2.50!

It is a sweet house. It will look oh-so-much better when the painter and gardener are finished. (and the catalog sounds interesting!!) ~W
Certainly don’t look to me for advise as my GRAY -blue is in all actuality very very BLUE. (Dang it!)
I think I’ll join Monica across the street for the wine and cheese party. Some heckling may be in order also….

Oh, just for that, I’m going to paint the house WHITE! Pffft. 😀 ~W
Now, see, if it was my house, I might paint it squirrel, just because.
Since it’s your house and WHERE it is, I’d go with purple, just because you’re in a TYPE of house in a TYPE of town where you CAN! 🙂 Good luck finding just the right colors.

Heh, I saw that color and thought of you! 😀 ~W
One more idea…although it’s not technically correct (at least according to that website…you can have exterior paint tinted with the interior colors of your choice.

Oh, that’s good to know!! I think we’ve settled on a color for the majority of the house and the accent–we’re asking for advice on the trim color. I figure the painter might have a good idea on what color to use for the trim that will look lovely with the rest of the house. And the gardener came out today. Oh my. So much work. But the good news is, we are starting. Yippee. ~W
