. . . to inform you that the author of this blog finds herself a wee bit distracted at the moment. Having fallen prey to the insidious fad rapidly taking over crafting blogs, our author is presently in a heated battle with a granny square manual. Sadly she is losing, as the manual seems to enjoy tossing numbers deviously in her direction. We occasionally hear screams of “DC 3” and “Ch 5”, but we’re loath to check on her progress as those crochet hooks she’s using look lethal. Did we mention our author was a humanities major in college and doesn’t recognize numbers except when they are in direct relationship to the discount she is getting on her purchase? This doesn’t bode well.
Should she prevail, which is unlikely, she will be back tomorrow with her weekly scheduled Sunday Sermon: where her text is surely to reference tenacity in times of trial. Or, maybe it will be entitled, “How I stood up to the devil and won.” We find this prospect unlikely and suggest you don’t hold your breath for tomorrow’s service. We certainly aren’t! We are assured come hell or granny square, the vicar of this blog will be back on Monday.
However, we don’t promise that she we will be in a very good mood.
Good luck with that. I’ve never understood how the whole process works. I can build computers blind folded and I play chef rather well – but what you are talking about – completely confusing.
In any case, I hope the devil is black and blue and accessorized in granny squares…

I’m missing something. I’m not sure what, but as I’m still having a fun time seeing properly out of my left eye, it doesn’t surprise me one bit! ~W
That’s funny – I was just pondering the awesomeness of the granny square the other day and trolling ebay for vintage blankets.

Are you finding anything that isn’t made in Orlon? I wish I could find something made in a nice wool. . . I wish I could figure this out, because it seems like the thing you could do on the fly. Unlike my sewing machine, it seems portable! ~W
I feel for you. I tried to teach myself to knit using only a book and the results were a little less than fabulous. I hope you figure out those cryptic numbers, though, ‘casue I’m lovin’ people’s granny square posts. And knowing you, you’ll have some fabulous photos to post if you get going on it. Good luck!

Me too, me too. I don’t like being whipped by something every manual I read has had the nerve to title, “Basic” and “Beginner.” If this continues, I might have to start throwing around big words I know just to feel better about myself. 😀 ~W
I wondered where you were. Now I know that you were lost in craft hell. Not for me, thanks!

It is hell. The devil doesn’t have a pitch-fork, he has a crochet hook. 😀 ~W
All these years I thought I was knitting. Actually I was purling. 🙂 I don’t really know what I’m doing when I do it, and they are usually just little strips, but it’s fun. 🙂 Have fun with crocheting or knitting….at least you can take it with you in the car. 😉 Well, unless you’re driving…please don’t knit and drive. 🙂

I’m trying to crochet, but I’m missing something in the directions. I’ve given up for the time being and am now working on a machine that I have some experience using. I just cut out pj bottoms out of an old sheet. Heh. Poor IZ. Oh well, it’s dark—he won’t have to look at them with his eyes closed. 😀 ~W
Oh stupid directions…I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been cruising along, totally congratulating myself during a knitting project and then they throw something at you that is totally confusing and rediculous. My mother and I both shake our fists in the air while yelling a few choice words…they say you should just keep going and do whatever they say (whoever they are) Good Luck!

Oof… I’m lost and I haven’t even really started. I’m realizing how much I learn by actually “doing”. I have one already made that I got thrifting–maybe if I pull it apart?? 😀 ~W
You shall prevail! You must! If you can’t conquer the granny square manual how will I ever conquer the intimidating world of cabling?

Oh, don’t hold your breath Ari—it’s looking increasingly like my ability to crochet is right up there with my ability to cook. ~W
